Responsibilities:

The primary purpose of the CNA Instructor is to provide instruction for Nursing Assistant courses and maintain course documentation and related Nursing Assistant Program communication. The CNA instructor will follow New York State provided guidelines to prepare CNA students to learn to handle the demands of the job, understand their role, and scope of practice. The CNA Instructor prepares the students to pass an examination to become certified through clinical, classroom and hands-on training within the long-term facility setting. The CNA Instructor will assist the Director of Staff Development in preparing and facilitating mandatory education for the nursing home employees.

 

  • Teach the course curriculum as outlined by facility. Provide on-site instruction in the areas of entry level care giving for Nursing Assistants
  • Build knowledge and develop clinical skills aimed at assisting students to obtain the CNA certifications
  • Plan, select, prepare and implement appropriate active learning activities and/or select and utilize reliable and valid formative and summative in-class assessment tools/techniques to measure students' achievement of course competencies
  • Distribute, in written form, course competencies, performance criteria, established approved grading procedures and standards, attendance and class policies/procedures, and other necessary information to students at the beginning of the course
  • Work collaboratively with the DON, administrator, colleagues and staff members to integrate instructional activities and materials
  • Maintain accurate records on all students, including but not limited to attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content
  • Evaluate and document students’ progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained
  • Communicate effectively with students, and all those affiliated with the course, including staff at clinical training facilities, CTC staff, and prospective employers
  • Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good patient care
  • Maintain a monthly time sheet and turn in at required deadlines
  • Ability to perform physical work with patients and students in a clinical setting
  • Assist Director of Staff Development with mandatory education for the facility
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

Education:

  • 4 year/Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred
  • 2 Year/Associate Degree in Nursing, required

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years teaching Nursing Assistant program, preferred
  • Minimum 2 years in a long term care RN experience, required

Licensure/Certifications:

  • NYS Registered Nurse license, required

  • New York State Department of Health approved Train the Trainer or qualified to take Train the Trainer after hired within 6 months of hire, required
