The Medical-Surgical Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides essential direct patient care and support under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The CNA assists patients with daily living activities, promotes comfort and safety, and supports efficient unit operations in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding, and grooming
Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and intake and output as directed
Assist with patient mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and transfers using proper body mechanics
Observe and report changes in patient condition to the nursing staff promptly
Provide post-operative care support, including incentive spirometry reminders and mobility assistance
Assist with specimen collection and transport
Maintain patient rooms by stocking supplies and ensuring cleanliness and safety
Respond to call lights and patient requests in a timely and compassionate manner
Support infection prevention, safety protocols, and patient privacy standards (HIPAA)
Assist nursing staff with admissions, transfers, and discharges
Document care provided accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)

Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, administration, and staff.

Regulatory Requirements
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required by facility
