Position Summary: Second Shift CNC Bore Mill Machinist
The CNC Bore Mill Machinist is a skilled, experienced operator responsible for the setup, operation, and quality verification of CNC horizontal boring mill equipment. This role is critical to ACME's production capacity and supports the second-shift execution of precision components for aerospace, defense, and industrial customers. The right candidate brings deep machine knowledge, a self-sufficient approach to setup and troubleshooting, and the discipline to hold tight tolerances on complex, high-value parts.
Essential Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC horizontal boring mills to produce precision components from engineering drawings, routers, and work orders
Select and install tooling, fixtures, and workholding equipment appropriate to the job
Perform in-process and final inspection using precision measurement tools (micrometers, bore gauges, CMM where applicable)
Read and interpret GD&T, blueprints, and shop travelers with accuracy
Monitor feeds, speeds, and tool wear; make offsets and adjustments to maintain tolerances
Identify and resolve machine alarms, tooling issues, and surface condition problems independently
Maintain accurate production records, first-article documentation, and non-conformance reports as required
Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards; support 5S on the shop floor
Collaborate with day-shift operators and production management to ensure smooth shift transitions and workload continuity
Participate in cross-training and knowledge transfer activities as the operation grows
Qualifications
Required:
Ability to work second shift consistently starting at 4:00 PM Monday through Friday with Voluntary Overtime available
5+ years of hands-on CNC boring mill experience (horizontal boring mill preferred)
Demonstrated ability to set up jobs independently — not operator-only experience
Proficiency reading blueprints and GD&T
Experience with precision measurement and inspection
Preferred:
Experience in aerospace, defense, or heavy industrial manufacturing
Familiarity with FANUC controls
Exposure to AS9100 or ISO quality management systems
Experience machining large, complex, low-volume parts
