CNC-Focused Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

About the Role

Join a hands-on maintenance team in Sterling Heights, Michigan as a direct hire. This is a second-shift position with paid training on first shift for several weeks. Compensation ranges from $33.00 to $35.00 per hour, depending on experience.

A Day in the Life

You’ll arrive to a clean, organized facility and review the maintenance queue: a CNC lathe due for PM, a hydraulic leak on a press, and an unexpected sensor fault on a mill. You prioritize safety, pull up the equipment manual and work order, then get to work—diagnosing, replacing parts, testing, and fine-tuning until machines run to spec. In between, you collaborate with a small cross-functional team to tackle unscheduled repairs, keep 5S standards sharp, and ensure production stays on pace.

What You’ll Do

• Install, maintain, and repair production machinery—especially CNC mills and lathes—as well as facility equipment.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns during production; perform scheduled service during downtime.
• Execute machinist tasks and precision adjustments to return equipment to optimal performance.
• Apply mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting to identify root causes.
• Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work orders to plan and perform maintenance.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, replace or rebuild components, test, and make necessary adjustments.
• Handle general plumbing and basic carpentry as part of facility upkeep.
• Identify abnormal operations or defective materials and escalate to supervision.
• Uphold all safety policies, maintain orderly work areas, and actively support 5S.
• Collaborate in small teams and assist with other related tasks as needed.

What You Bring

• 2–4 years in manufacturing maintenance with strong mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and industrial skill sets.
• Significant experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing PM on CNC mills and lathes; able to operate CNC equipment when needed.
• Proficiency with hand and power tools, electrical test meters, and material handling equipment.
• Solid understanding of CNC systems and controls.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently while communicating effectively with the team.

Education & Physical Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a craft apprenticeship or equivalent education plus production maintenance experience.
• Comfortable standing for extended periods; able to lift up to 75 lbs regularly, with occasional need for heavier lifts.

Schedule & Training

This is a second-shift role. Training will be required for several weeks on first shift before transitioning to the regular schedule.

Compensation

$33.00–$35.00 per hour, direct placement.
