CNC Horizontal Mill Operator

A day in this role

You begin with safety checks and PPE, then bring a CNC horizontal mill online—verifying tooling, workholding, and programs. Throughout the shift, you tune spindle speeds, feed rates, and material flow to keep quality high and throughput steady, producing precise horizontal-milled features that feed our assembly operations. You’ll prioritize work so the right parts are ready when production needs them.

What you’ll do

  • Work safely at all times, wear required PPE, and keep your area organized and clean.
  • Prioritize and stage jobs to meet production demand—sort by material and part number, sequence operations, and pull/return stock as needed.
  • Set up and run the CNC horizontal mill; install/change tools and select the correct machine programs to ensure quality and productivity.
  • Load and unload material securely and efficiently; oversee machining and any related punching operations.
  • Produce parts with horizontal-milled features for downstream assembly.
  • Follow manufacturing inventory-control procedures and complete any required documentation.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance using proper lockout/tagout practices.
  • Cross-train on additional manufacturing tasks and provide backup support where needed.
  • Hit or exceed company productivity targets and record uptime/downtime accurately.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by your supervisor as needed.

About you

  • 2–5 years of experience operating a CNC horizontal mill or comparable equipment in a manufacturing setting; exposure to Elumatec or Emmegi is a plus.
  • Foundational knowledge of G-code CNC programming (program selection/usage).
  • Background in lean or continuous-improvement environments is advantageous.
  • Comfortable using precision tools such as a tape measure and calipers.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong attention to detail and a “Stop & Ask” mindset whenever something is unclear.

Tools & tech

  • CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC)
