Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist


Job Description


This full-time CNC Lathe Machinist role focuses on setting up and operating CNC and manual lathes to produce high-quality precision parts in a clean, air-conditioned manufacturing shop. You will read and interpret blueprints, perform multiple setups per week or per day, and run multiple machines simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, productivity, and adherence to aerospace and defense quality standards.


Responsibilities


+ Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes to produce precision components according to blueprints and work instructions.

+ Produce a first piece that is ready for inspection and meets all dimensional and quality requirements.

+ Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and proper sequence of operations.

+ Perform multiple machine setups per week or per day, adjusting tooling, offsets, and fixtures as needed.

+ Run two or more machines at a time while maintaining consistent quality and productivity.

+ Use various measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, rules, and protractors, to verify dimensions and tolerances.

+ Inspect workpieces during and after machining to ensure they meet specifications and AS9100 quality standards.

+ Operate related equipment such as milling machines, grinding machines, and CNC mills as needed to support production.

+ Monitor machine performance and make minor adjustments to programs, tooling, and feeds/speeds to optimize quality and efficiency.

+ Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures.

+ Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities.

+ Handle and move materials and parts, including lifting up to 50 pounds as required.


Essential Skills


+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

+ At least 2 years of CNC or manual lathe setup experience, including multiple setups per week or per day.

+ Hands-on experience with lathe operation, including CNC lathe and manual lathe machining.

+ Ability to run two or more machines at a time while maintaining quality and throughput.

+ Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and work instructions.

+ Ability to make accurate measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, rules, and protractors.

+ Basic math skills to perform necessary calculations for machining and inspection.

+ Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

+ Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

+ Eligibility as a U.S. Person under EAR and ITAR regulations.


Additional Skills & Qualifications


+ Experience with CNC setup and operation, including editing or adjusting programs at the machine.

+ Background in operating milling machines, grinding machines, and CNC mills.

+ Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and aerospace/defense machining requirements.

+ Comfort working in a growing production environment with evolving processes and potential shift expansion.

+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high productivity.

Work Environment


The role is based in a machine shop with approximately 40 employees, currently running a single shift with plans for future growth and the potential addition of a second shift. The facility operates to AS9100 standards for CNC machining, supporting aerospace and defense-level quality. The shop is clean and air-conditioned, providing a comfortable manufacturing environment. You will work with modern CNC equipment, including Samsung machines, Puma 250, Puma 10, and Doosan Lynx 2600 or 300, as well as related machining and inspection tools. The position requires standing, moving around the shop, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds while following established safety practices.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Union, New Jersey.


Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
