Position Overview
Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Operator / Turning Machinist for a precision manufacturing opportunity in Claremore. This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes and turning centers to produce precision components for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications.
Candidates should have at least 1 year of CNC lathe or turning experience and be comfortable performing machine setups, making tooling and offset adjustments, reading engineering drawings, and inspecting finished components to tight tolerances.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of turning operations, GD&T, precision measurement, and basic G-code/M-code adjustments and can independently monitor machining operations while maintaining consistent quality.
Required Experience & Skills
Minimum 1 year of CNC lathe or turning experience
Experience setting up and operating CNC lathes or turning centers
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
Working knowledge of GD&T
Experience setting and adjusting tool offsets
Ability to make tool-wear corrections
Ability to perform basic G-code and M-code adjustments
Strong understanding of machining processes and tooling
Experience using precision measuring instruments
Strong shop math and dimensional inspection skills
Ability to maintain tight manufacturing tolerances
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
High school diploma or GED required
Strong attention to quality and workplace safety
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Set up CNC lathes and turning centers for assigned production jobs
Operate 2-axis through multi-axis CNC turning equipment
Review blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions
Load raw materials into machines or applicable workholding
Load and verify pre-programmed machining files
Select and install appropriate tooling
Set tool positions and offsets
Make tool-wear corrections throughout production
Perform basic G-code and M-code adjustments when required
Monitor machining operations for accuracy and equipment performance
Perform turning, facing, boring, grooving, and threading operations
Troubleshoot basic machining and tooling problems
Complete first-piece inspections
Perform in-process quality inspections
Verify finished components meet dimensional requirements
Maintain tight tolerances throughout production runs
Perform routine machine maintenance
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Follow all company quality and safety procedures
CNC Turning Operations
Candidates should have experience with machining operations such as:
Turning
Facing
Boring
Grooving
Threading
Chamfering
OD machining
ID machining
Other CNC lathe operations
Candidates should understand how tooling, speeds, feeds, offsets, and material conditions can affect finished-part quality.
Machine Setup & Tooling
Set up CNC turning centers according to job requirements
Install and align applicable tooling
Load materials into chucks or other workholding systems
Verify machine setup before production
Set tool offsets
Make wear-offset corrections
Adjust tooling as required
Monitor tool condition throughout production
Identify worn or damaged tooling
Make basic program adjustments when necessary
Blueprint & GD&T Responsibilities
Candidates must be able to:
Read manufacturing blueprints
Interpret engineering drawings
Understand dimensional tolerances
Apply working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
Identify diameters, radii, threads, and other machining requirements
Compare completed components against applicable drawings
Identify dimensional discrepancies before continuing production
Precision Measurement & Inspection
Candidates should be proficient with applicable inspection equipment, including:
Micrometers
Calipers
Bore gauges
Other precision measuring instruments
Responsibilities include:
Performing first-piece inspections
Conducting in-process inspections
Measuring finished components
Verifying critical dimensions
Monitoring tolerances throughout production
Identifying nonconforming parts
Making machine or tooling adjustments based on inspection results
Quality Responsibilities
Maintain tight tolerances throughout production
Verify finished components meet applicable specifications
Inspect parts throughout the machining process
Identify dimensional or finish concerns
Make applicable offset or tooling corrections
Prevent nonconforming components from continuing through production
Maintain accurate and consistent workmanship
Follow established quality procedures

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for 810+ hours per shift
Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and material handling
Manual dexterity required for tooling, setup, and precision measurement
Ability to safely handle raw materials and finished components
Comfortable working around CNC machinery and production equipment
Ability to safely perform assigned duties while wearing required PPE
