We are hiring a CNC Lathe Setup Machinist who can perform full setups, machine precision turned parts, and ensure all parts meet strict GD&T and dimensional requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complete setups on CNC lathes (chucks, soft jaws, tool geometry, offsets).
- Run first-article parts and verify dimensional accuracy before production.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T feature control frames.
- Operate CNC lathes and maintain quality throughout the run.
- Inspect parts using micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, calipers, etc.
- Make minor program edits and adjust offsets when needed.
- Select appropriate inserts, tooling, speeds and feeds.
- Troubleshoot chatter, tool wear, taper issues, and surface finish problems.
Skills:
- Ability to perform independent CNC lathe setups from start to finish.
- Strong ability to read prints and GD&T for features of the part.
- Proficiency with precision inspection tools (bore gauges, micrometers, indicators).
- Understanding of tool nose compensation, insert selection, and turning strategies.
- Experience with chucking, soft jaws, collets, and concentricity control.
- Ability to hold tight tolerances (+/- .0005 or tighter depending on print).
- Familiarity with G/M codes, canned cycles, and program adjustments.
- Knowledge of cutting principles: SFM, feed per rev, chip control, and heat.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for dimensional and finish issues.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years CNC lathe set up experience required.
- Machining certificate or vocational training a plus.
