Job Type: Full-Time (Temp to Perm to start)
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
General Summary
The CNC Lathe Setup Machinist-Programmer is responsible for setting up and programming CNC lathes to produce precision components according to engineering specifications. This hands-on role focuses on efficient, accurate machine setup while incorporating strong programming skills to create, edit, and optimize CNC programs. Ideal candidates are experienced in multi-axis lathe setups, confident with G/M-code, and capable of taking a part from setup through first-article validation in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
Setup & Operation
Plan and execute setups for CNC lathes, including tooling, work holding, and machine offsets.
Interpret complex drawings, GD&T, and 3D models to plan machining strategies.
Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and work holding methods.
Operate CNC lathes, including live-tool and multi-axis machines, to validate setups and run parts.
Perform first-article inspections and adjust offsets or tooling as needed.
Troubleshoot machining issues to ensure repeatable, high-quality results.
Programming
Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs (G/M code) directly at the control or through CAM systems.
Verify and prove out new or modified programs during setup.
Collaborate with engineers and production leads to improve program efficiency and consistency.
Maintain organized program documentation and revision control.
Quality and Inspection
Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and indicators for inspection.
