CNC Machine Maintenance Mechanic (Contingent) for KARL STORZ in Franklin, MA. Contractor (pay-as-you-go). 100% Onsite. Marketplace Pay Rate: $33.00/hr. Contract expected Aug 10, 2026 - Dec 31, 2026 (143 days). Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM EST (could possibly start a little later). Worksite spans three suites (Ste 70 amc1, Ste 50 ssu, Ste 1020 amc2) with ~50 OEMs, 35 major machines, and 50+ peripherals. Interview: 1 interview per candidate, onsite with the Hiring Manager.
Summary: Analyze, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a variety of CNC electro-mechanical control systems and machine sub-systems for precision machining equipment. Detect machine abnormalities using real-time data (servo load, temperature, vibration, acoustics, etc.) to improve predictive maintenance, zero-breakdown, and zero-product-defect capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on manufacturing machinery
- Maintain and repair a diverse mix of machining equipment (5-axis milling machines, mill-turns, EDMs, Laser-Swiss, CNC lathes, motion control systems, mist collectors, ovens, stamping machines, etc.)
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control systems down to the component level; document work in maintenance software and determine root cause for every failure
- Plan repair work; determine methods and sequence of operations; work closely with engineering to resolve complex problems quickly
- Identify improvements in preventative maintenance instructions, asset BOMs, and machine design changes; communicate to engineering management
- Adhere to FDA quality system regulation, ISO 13485, and ISO 9001 (current revisions); tank cleanout; TPM/light repairs
Desired Knowledge & Skills:
- 3-5 years maintaining and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems on CNC machine shop equipment in a manufacturing environment (flexible on years; min 1+ year baseline mechanical/design-shop experience)
- Read/interpret schematics, drawings, specs, and operating requirements (electrical/mechanical/pneumatic/hydraulic/ladder logic)
- Ability to program and operate CNC equipment to verify repairs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to write detailed repair reports
- Use of power tools, hand tools, and forklift
- 2+ years Ballbar testing/analysis preferred; 3-5 years with Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Heidenhain, Mazatrol controllers preferred; PLC and servo drive hardware/software; Mazak, KERN, Tsugami, EuroTech, Rofin, Fanuc EDM, Maier, Citizen
- Associate degree in advanced manufacturing or technical certification desired; FDA environment experience preferred; welding a plus
Physical: Must work overtime as needed; lift 50 lbs and routinely do heavy lifting; climb ladders, transport materials, work in confined spaces; may respond to facility emergencies off-hours/weekends. Minimum education: High school diploma or GED.
