CNC Machine Operator

This role involves setting up and operating advanced 5-axis CNC mills and multi-spindle lathes to produce precision aerospace components from high-performance materials. The machinist interprets complex engineering data, ensures tight-tolerance quality through inspection, and troubleshoots machining or programming issues to maintain efficient production.

LOCATION: Portland, OR

SALARY: $22+/hr. DOE

SCHEDULE: Full-time; Monday-Friday | 7:00am-3:30pm

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS ROLE

  • Gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment, materials, and CAD/CAM tools.

  • Take ownership of challenging setups and problem-solving that directly impact production success.

  • Develop highly sought-after skills in tight-tolerance machining and multi-axis operations.

  • Be part of a quality-driven environment where craftsmanship and technical expertise are valued.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Setup and Operation: Configure complex setups for 5-axis vertical/horizontal mills and multi-spindle lathes. This includes mounting workpieces, aligning fixtures, and loading specialized tooling.

  • Blueprint & GD&T Interpretation: Read and interpret intricate engineering drawings, CAD models, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to plan machining sequences.

  • Material Expertise: Machine high-performance, tough aerospace alloys such as Titanium, Inconel, and Stainless Steel, adjusting feeds and speeds to optimize tool life and surface finish.

  • Quality Inspection: Conduct rigorous in-process and final inspections using precision tools like micrometers, calipers, and bore gauges to maintain tolerances often as tight as ±.001" or better.

  • Troubleshooting & Programming: Perform basic G-code edits at the machine and resolve issues like tool wear, chatter, or controller alarms to minimize downtime.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 3–8+ years of CNC machining experience, including 2–3 years in 5-axis setup and operation, with proficiency in advanced controllers (Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol, Heidenhain).

  • Strong ability to interpret complex blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T, with hands-on experience machining high-performance aerospace alloys.

  • Skilled in precision inspection and familiar with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Hypermill, Siemens NX) for quality control and toolpath optimization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and safely lift and position heavy materials or tooling. Candidates must have strong hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION STATEMENT
We are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that welcomes diverse candidates. All qualified applicants will be considered regardless of background, identity, or status.
