Cadence VA is seeking an experienced CNC Machine Set-Up Operator - Group Lead to support our 1st Shift CNC Sharpening work cell. This position serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the assigned work cell, providing technical support, machine setup, troubleshooting, quality oversight, and ongoing training and development for team members.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an individual with advanced CNC machining knowledge, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to support the team while driving safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Position Purpose
The Group Lead supports the assigned work cell by performing machine setups, troubleshooting equipment and process issues, ensuring product quality, and mentoring team members. This role works closely with the Production Supervisor to improve workflow, reduce setup times, minimize scrap, and increase overall operational efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the assigned CNC Sharpening work cell.
- Perform machine and tooling setups for CNC milling, lathe, sharpening, and 5-axis equipment.
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime.
- Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to operators.
- Train, coach, and develop team members on equipment, processes, and best practices.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical drawings.
- Perform tool changes, offsets, machine adjustments, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Verify product quality using precision measuring equipment while ensuring compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Support production schedules while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce setup times, decrease scrap, and eliminate machine errors.
- Communicate effectively and collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to resolve production issues.
- Demonstrate leadership by promoting teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Advanced CNC machining knowledge and mechanical aptitude.
- 5+ years of CNC experience with machine setups, tooling changes, offsets, and troubleshooting.
- Strong blueprint reading, shop math, and measurement skills.
- Knowledge of Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to prioritize work while supporting multiple production demands.
