Step into a day where uptime depends on you

You start by opening the maintenance system to review and issue work orders. A vertical mill waits for a laser alignment and ballbar check, while a horizontal lathe flashes a Fanuc alarm. Before lunch, you level a newly rigged machine, validate probing with Renishaw tools, and document updates to schematics. In the afternoon, you field calls with outside suppliers for parts and technical guidance, weld a custom guard, and audit facility utilities and security. You wrap by cleaning your area, updating CMMS logs, and coaching a junior tech—another day safeguarding precision and productivity.

What you’ll handle

  • Full-spectrum diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair across machine tools and auxiliaries: horizontal and vertical lathes/mills, shapers, hobs, cranes, and hoists.
  • Installation, leveling, laser alignment, ballbar validation, and functional testing after any repair, modification, or new install.
  • Mechanical and electrical repairs: diagnose, disassemble, repair/replace, reassemble, align, and adjust components for proper function.
  • Rigging and installation of equipment, including layout and installation of required services.
  • Machining, installation, maintenance, and renovation on equipment, hand tools, and auxiliaries; work may include HVAC, plant buildings, facilities, and utilities.
  • Electrical/electronic systems work on machines and auxiliaries; may include HVAC, plant buildings, facilities, and utilities.
  • Preventative maintenance execution and documentation; maintain/issue and complete work orders.
  • Receive and make calls to outside suppliers for replacement parts and technical services; request quotes as needed.
  • Audits of facility security and utility services; repair and/or communicate issues.

Your technical toolkit

  • Controls: strong knowledge of Fanuc, Mazak (Mazatrol), Siemens, Okuma OSP, and Haas; Heidenhain is a plus.
  • Probing/verification: knowledge of Renishaw probing and ballbar systems.
  • Legacy expertise: experience maintaining and repairing older shapers and hobs (Fellows, Liebherr, Pfauter).
  • Documentation: create, read, modify, and mark up blueprints, sheet metal drawings, hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical schematics, PLC wiring diagrams, PLC programs, and circuit diagrams.
  • Project scope: perform mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic work on new equipment and machine rebuilds, including installation and documentation of hydraulics, pneumatics, PLC wiring/programming, and mechanical systems.
  • CNC enhancement: diagnose, repair, and upgrade mechanical and electrical components on CNC equipment.
  • Electrical: install/maintain motors, power and lighting circuits, starters, and circuit breakers; diagnose electrical circuits including solid-state controls.
  • Hydraulics: read/understand hydraulic schematics and troubleshoot hydraulic problems on CNC equipment.
  • Fabrication: cut, weld (MIG and TIG), and fabricate parts for machines, covers, and guarding.
  • Measurement/Math: apply shop math using charts, tables, and handbook formulas; use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments with knowledge of machine tool operation, methods, and materials.

How you work

  • Operate the maintenance system to log activities and outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe, clean workspace and champion 6S initiatives.
  • Promote a team-first culture; train new employees and instruct lower classification technicians.
  • Participate in company-provided training and cross-train across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and perform other related duties as assigned.

Credentials

  • Electrician License required or willingness to obtain; preference for already-licensed candidates.

Physical requirements

  • Lift, move, and manipulate up to 35 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Stand and/or walk for long periods.
  • Must pass PIE requirements to operate equipment.
