    Job Description

    Position SummaryThe 2nd Shift CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machine tools in a high-precision manufacturing environment. This role supports the production of complex machined components used in critical marine and defense engine systems.The ideal candidate is experienced in machine operations, capable of working independently, and committed to producing high-quality parts that meet strict engineering tolerances.

    Primary FunctionSet up and operate one or more CNC machine tools, either individually or within a work cell, to produce precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, process documentation, and established work instructions.

    Key Responsibilities

    Set up and operate CNC machines including mills, horizontal and vertical lathes, machining centersInterpret and follow blueprints, process documentation, setup sheets, and verbal instructionsEstablish machine reference points, offsets, and tooling setupsPreset tooling and perform trial runs or program prove-outs as requiredMachine parts to specified tolerances and quality standardsOperate multiple machines simultaneously when requiredPerform secondary operations such as deburring, inspection, and in-process quality checksHandle materials using proper lifting methods including hoists and cranesMaintain tooling, fixture, and program files in accordance with standard work practicesPerform daily machine cleaning and routine maintenance checksEnsure adherence to safety standards and standard operating procedures

    Tools & Equipment

    CNC machining centers (horizontal, vertical, and multi-axis machines)CNC lathesFixtures, chucks, inserts, cutters, and standard machining toolingPrecision Measurement Tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gagesEngineering drawings, blueprints, and process documentationHand tools and material handling equipment (including hoists and cranes)

    Materials

    Ferrous and non-ferrous metals used in industrial and defense applications

    Qualifications & Requirements

    High School Diploma or Equivalent3-5 years of CNC machining or equivalent manufacturing experienceAbility to read and interpret blueprints and engineering specificationsProficient in the use of precision measuring instrumentsStrong attention to detail and quality standardsAbility to stand or sit for extended periods and move throughout the facilityStrong organizational skills with the ability to self-manage tasks through completionCNC programming experience at the machine is a plusMust be a U.S. Citizen with proof of citizenship (e.g., U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, or Naturalization Certificate)Ability to work in compliance with Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NOFORN) regulations
