Location: East Syracuse, NY Job Type: Full-Time Pay: $27.00–$36.00 per hour, plus a 10% second shift differential Shift: 2nd shift in machining is 3:00 p.m.-1:30 am M-Th.

Position Summary

The CNC Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating 3-axis and 4-axis horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers to manufacture precision-machined components. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprint interpretation, quality standards, and process optimization. The ideal candidate is highly skilled, detail-oriented, and capable of troubleshooting machining issues while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 3-axis and 4-axis horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Select and install the appropriate tooling, fixtures, and machining parameters to produce precision components.
  • Verify part dimensions using precision measuring equipment in accordance with documented quality plans.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make real-time adjustments to improve quality, efficiency, and machine performance.
  • Edit and make basic modifications to CNC programs and machining macros when necessary.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and basic machine troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and quality documentation.
  • Train and mentor less experienced machinists by sharing technical knowledge and best practices.
  • Communicate shift activities, production status, and any issues to ensure smooth operational continuity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, quality standards, and operating procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of CNC machining experience, including machine setup, operation, and process optimization.
  • Experience operating both horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles and programming.
  • Ability to edit and write basic CNC macros.
  • Proven ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining issues during setup and production.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills with a thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, indicators, and related inspection tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality precision components.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, and stooping.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 35 pounds as needed.
