Education Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in Machine Tool Technology, CNC Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience operating CNC mills, turning centers, VMCs, or similar equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 2 years of CNC programming experience using CAM software.
  • Hass Programming.
  • Experience creating and editing CNC programs, performing machine setups, and validating production processes.
  • Strong understanding of G-code, machine controls, feeds and speeds, tooling selection, and machining best practices.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment to verify part quality and conformance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with 3-axis milling, CNC turning, mill-turn centers, and horizontal machining centers (HMCs).
  • Strong knowledge of fixture design, tool selection, process development, and manufacturability improvements.
  • Proficiency with CAM software and CAD models.
  • Experience developing standardized setup sheets, work instructions, and machining processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting prototype, R&D, and production machining environments is highly preferred.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform machine setup activities throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely lift and handle tooling, fixtures, raw materials, and machined parts.
  • Ability to work safely around CNC machinery while wearing required PPE.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for precision machining and inspection activities.

Job Duties

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC mills and turning centers to manufacture production components and prototype parts.
  • Create and upload CNC programs using CAM software, engineering drawings, and CAD models.
  • Select tooling, fixtures, workholding, cutting parameters, and machining strategies for optimal performance.
  • Run setup pieces and validate machining programs before production release.
  • Perform first-article and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Develop, document, and improve machining processes, setup procedures, and work instructions.
  • Design and build custom fixtures to improve efficiency and part quality.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, and Production teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and improve manufacturability.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and maintain an organized, safe, and efficient machine shop environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, safety, and cost reduction.

What You Will Do

As a CNC Machinist you will set up, operate, monitor, and adjust CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision components according to engineering specifications. You will verify machine setups, inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments, troubleshoot machining issues, maintain tooling, and support quality and production goals while following established safety and manufacturing procedures.

R&D prototypes. Essential Skills and Responsibilities Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting Near Misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same. Prepares and loads tooling, fixtures, and material into CNC machines. Creates and uploads finished programs to CNC machines. Runs CNC programs. Machines parts for Production and R&D prototypes. Performs initial part inspection and coordinates with Quality department to ensure machined parts conform to requirements. Communicates with other departments to resolve process or quality issues. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly. Performs basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment. Programs and machines 3-axis Mill machine. Programs and machines Turning. Runs setup pieces to validate programs and tooling. Creates, documents, and maintains setup and process procedures. Provides feedback regarding manufacturability to design engineers. Create CNC programs via CAM software using engineering CAD models and drawings Select appropriate tools and fixtures from drawings and work instructions. Develops custom fixtures.

A CNC Machinist combines machining knowledge with computer-controlled manufacturing technology to produce precision components safely and efficiently. This role requires technical ability, mathematical understanding, and a commitment to maintaining exact specifications.
