Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist
Job Description
This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC lathes within a highly equipped, climate-controlled machine shop. You will perform full set ups, tool changeovers, minor program edits, and precision machining on a variety of CNC equipment, with a primary focus on a Mori Seiki twin spindle, two-turret lathe. The position requires strong CNC machining skills, attention to detail, and the ability to hold close tolerances while maintaining productivity and quality.
Responsibilities
  • Perform complete set ups of CNC lathes, including preparing fixtures, tooling, and programs for production runs.
  • Operate and run CNC machinery safely and efficiently to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Perform all tool changeovers and adjustments to maintain optimal cutting conditions and part quality.
  • Make minor edits and adjustments to CNC programs (including G-code) as needed to achieve correct dimensions and tolerances.
  • Run parts and measure to close and exact tolerances, ensuring all work meets specified requirements.
  • Make quality measurements using appropriate inspection tools, check dimensions, analyze data, and make appropriate machine or program adjustments to meet part specifications.
  • Monitor CNC machines during operation to ensure consistent productivity and identify potential issues before they impact quality or output.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of machinists to coordinate workflow, share technical knowledge, and support continuous improvement in the machine shop.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all shop procedures and best practices.
  • Utilize a variety of CNC turning, horizontal machining, vertical machining, and support equipment as required by production needs.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience in CNC machining with a focus on CNC lathes.
  • Hands-on experience performing CNC set ups, including setting tooling, fixtures, and offsets.
  • Ability to perform tool changeovers and make precise tool adjustments.
  • Experience with G-code programming and the ability to perform minor CNC program edits.
  • Ability to run and measure parts to close and exact tolerances.
  • Demonstrated ability to make accurate quality measurements and verify part dimensions against specifications.
  • Experience operating CNC lathes such as Mori Seiki machines, especially twin spindle, two-turret configurations.
  • Familiarity with CNC machining centers and lathes including Haas, Kitamura, Okuma, Cincom Citizen, and Mori Seiki equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise components.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other machinists across multiple shifts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with CNC mills and CNC programming beyond lathes.
  • Exposure to a variety of CNC turning equipment, including Citizen M32 Y Axis Swiss Type Lathe and multiple Mori Seiki CNC lathes (SL2500Y, ZT2500Y, NLX2500Y).
  • Experience with horizontal machining centers such as Kitamura Mycenter-HX500I and Mori Seiki SH-400 with full 4th axis capability.
  • Background using manual and engine lathes such as Clausing, Ganesh, Lagun, South Bend, and Weisser turret lathes.
  • Experience with vertical knee milling equipment, including Bridgeport Series 1 and Lagun vertical knee mills.
  • Familiarity with vertical machining centers such as Kitamura Mycenter series, Makino FNC40, Milltronics RH20, and Mori Seiki SV-500, including 4th axis operations and pallet shuttles.
  • Experience using support equipment such as sand blasting machines, grinders, honing machines, laser engraving machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and MIG welding machines.
  • Comfort working in a highly organized, clean, and process-driven machine shop environment.

Work Environment
This role offers openings on both 1st and 2nd shifts. Typical schedules are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., or Monday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 1:45 a.m., with 4-5 hours of overtime available weekly. You will work primarily on a Mori Seiki twin spindle, two-turret lathe within a climate-controlled manufacturing environment. The machine shop is very clean, quiet, extremely organized, and air conditioned. On 1st shift, you will be part of a team of approximately 15-17 machinists. The facility includes extensive CNC turning capabilities (including Citizen M32 Y Axis Swiss Type Lathe and multiple Mori Seiki CNC lathes), horizontal machining centers with full 4th axis, a range of engine lathes, vertical knee mills, vertical machining centers with 4th axis and pallet shuttles, and various support machines such as sand blasting, grinders, honing machines, laser engraving, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and MIG weld machines. The environment emphasizes precision, cleanliness, organization, and the use of modern machining technology.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
