CNC Machinist Job Duties include:
  • Set Up and Operation: Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) to perform complex machining operations on various materials like metal, plastic, and composites.
  • Programming: Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM models to translate design specifications into precise machining instructions. Input, edit, and modify G-code and M-code programs as necessary.
  • Tooling: Select, install, and adjust the correct cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and materials for each job. Set tool offsets and make necessary adjustments to machine controls.
  • Quality Control: Perform first piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure parts meet tight tolerances and blueprint specifications (GD&T).
  • Monitoring and Adjustment: Monitor the machining process to detect and correct problems like tool wear, material inconsistencies, and programming errors, making real-time adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine and preventative maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn components. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or programming issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production data, quality checks, maintenance activities, and any deviations or process improvements.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned
CNC Machinist Preferred Skills include:
  • Advanced Experience: 3+ years of experience operating and setting up multi-axis CNC machines (e.g., 5-axis mills, live-tool lathes).
  • Programming Expertise: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks) for generating, optimizing, and verifying tool paths.
  • Certifications/Training: Technical certification or degree in CNC Machining, Machine Tool Technology, or a related field. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
  • Quality Knowledge: Expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Material Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of various materials (steel alloys, aluminum, exotic metals, plastics) and how their properties affect tooling and machining parameters.
  • Process Improvement: Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with engineers, supervisors, and quality control teams.
  • Must have 1 year of previous work experience
CNC Machinist Requirements may include:
  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: Proven experience (typically 1-2 years minimum) as a CNC Machinist or Operator, with demonstrated ability in machine setup and operation.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges).
  • Basic understanding of CNC programming concepts (G-code/M-code) and the ability to perform minor program edits.
  • Strong knowledge of shop mathematics, including basic algebra and trigonometry, for calculations and measurements.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting issues.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift moderate weights, and perform manual tasks in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment background check and drug screen
