CNC Machinist

Location: 203A Log Canoe Circle, Stevensville, MD 21666-2128

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:00 PM

Pay: $27-$35 per hour

Hydrasearch, a proud affiliate of The Dixon Group, is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our team in Stevensville, MD! We take pride in manufacturing high-quality, Made in the USA products that serve the U.S. Government, Military, and our allied partners worldwide. In this role, you'll play a key part in optimizing CNC equipment, including vertical and horizontal mills. You'll refine G and M code, create setup sheets for new jobs, and work closely with our Quality Department to ensure compliance with AS9100D standards. Experience with machining castings is a plus.

What Youll Do:

  • Machine Setup: Safely set up and operate CNC mills vertical and horizontal. Install and secure tools, attachments, and fixtures (work holding) for milling operations.
  • Operation & Monitoring: Load CNC programs, input parameters (speed/feeds), and run production cycles, making necessary adjustments, minor adjustments to maintain quality.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished workpieces using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers) to verify dimensions against blueprint specifications.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery to ensure optimal operation.
  • Documentation: Maintain logs of production, including number of parts produced, materials used, and quality check results.
  • Safety: Adhere to all safety policies, including wearing required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in CNC Setup and Operation, specifically with both Vertical and Horizontal Milling Centers.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficient in reading and interpreting complex technical blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and engineering drawings.
  • Precision Measurement: Demonstrated expertise using precision hand tools, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and depth gauges.
  • Mathematical Skills: Strong competency in shop math, including trigonometry and decimals, to calculate offsets and speeds/feeds.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for the duration of a shift (8+ hours) and safely lift/move materials up to 40 lbs.
  • Safety Mindset: Unwavering commitment to PPE requirements and shop safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming: Hands-on experience with GibbsCAM or similar CAM software for program tweaks or full setups.
  • Advanced Inspection: Experience operating or programming CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines).
  • Tooling Knowledge: Advanced understanding of specialized work-holding fixtures and custom tool geometry.
  • Formal Training: Completion of a vocational program, NIMS certification, or a formal Machinist Apprenticeship.
  • Process Improvement: A track record of suggesting minor program or setup adjustments to reduce cycle times or improve part finish.
