Company Profile

With more than 120 operations and approximately 20,000 employees worldwide, Precision Castparts Corp. is the market leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, forged components, aerostructures and highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace applications. In addition, we are the leading producer of airfoil castings for the industrial gas turbine market. We also manufacture extruded seamless pipe, fittings, and forgings for power generation and oil & gas applications; commercial and military airframe aerostructures; and metal alloys and other materials for the casting and forging industries. With such critical applications, we insist on quality and dependability - not just in the materials and products we make, but in the people we recruit.

PCC is relentless in its dedication to being a high-quality, low-cost and on-time producer; delivering the highest value to its customers while continually pursuing strategic, profitable growth.

In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by Chairman and CEO Warren E. Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.

Job Description

CNC Machinists are responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC lathe machines to produce complex aerospace components with precision and efficiency. Depending on experience and skill level, machinists may work under direct supervision or operate independently, demonstrating increasing levels of technical expertise and leadership.

Core responsibilities include loading and unloading parts, performing in-process inspections using hand and advanced measuring tools, and completing documentation to ensure quality standards are met. Machinists set up fixtures, cutting tools, and CNC programs, adjusting offsets as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy. They perform deburring operations, basic and advanced preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot machining processes to optimize performance.

Experienced machinists are proficient in using inspection tools such as height gauges, air gauges, and bench inspection equipment. At the highest level, they are capable of setting up and running all site-specific CNC and conventional machines, designing and manufacturing complex tooling, and mentoring junior machinists while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machine equipment to meet production rate and quality standards.
  • Load and unload materials and parts from machines.
  • Perform routine machine upkeep, including chip removal, surface cleaning, and maintaining coolant, oil, and lube levels.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges, and other gauges (tool variety may expand depending on experience).
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
  • Monitor machine and cutting conditions, reporting issues to shift lead or supervisor.
  • Deburr and edge-break parts as needed.
  • Set up machines by loading fixtures, tools, and programs, and adjusting offsets (depending on experience).
  • Operate multiple machines and apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques (depending on experience).
  • Perform basic CNC program operations; understanding and editing G Code (e.g., feed/speed adjustments, adding passes) may be required depending on experience.
  • Design and set up complex tooling and part layouts (depending on experience).
  • Train and mentor other machinists (depending on experience).
  • Follow all safety policies (PPE, machine operation, LOTO), quality standards, and 6S organizational practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 1 to 6+ years of CNC lathe experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
