Job DetailsKey Responsibilities
Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) on production and packaging equipment, including conveyors, mixers, fillers, labelers, palletizers, pumps, and motors.
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures to minimize production downtime.
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns during production runs and implement effective repairs under time-sensitive conditions.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals to troubleshoot and repair machinery.
Fabricate and machine replacement parts as needed using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment (welding, cutting, drilling, etc.).
Install new equipment and assist with line changeovers and upgrades.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, and parts/inventory records using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with food safety standards (GMP, HACCP, SQF) and OSHA safety regulations.
Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and follow all plant safety protocols.
Maintain sanitary design standards, ensuring equipment is maintained in a manner that prevents contamination risk.
Support sanitation team by ensuring equipment can be properly broken down, cleaned, and reassembled per sanitation SOPs.
Monitor and maintain boilers, compressors, refrigeration/ammonia systems, and other facility utility systems as applicable.
Participate in root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
Train and mentor junior mechanics or maintenance technicians as needed.
Respond to on-call/emergency maintenance requests outside of scheduled shifts, as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade school certification in industrial maintenance, mechanics, or related field preferred.
2-5+ years of maintenance mechanic experience in a food, beverage, or CPG manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Experience with PLCs, motor controls, and basic electrical troubleshooting a plus.
Familiarity with food safety programs (GMP, HACCP, SQF, FSMA) preferred.
Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
Basic welding and fabrication skills preferred.
Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems or boiler operation a plus (may require certification depending on facility).
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
Basic computer skills for CMMS work order entry and parts tracking.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75+ lbs occasionally.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
Ability to work in varying temperature environments (coolers, freezers, production floor heat).
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations as needed.
Work Environment
Fast-paced food manufacturing/production facility.
Exposure to moving machinery, wet/humid conditions, temperature extremes, and food-grade chemicals.
Required use of PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, cut-resistant gloves, etc.).
Preferred Certifications
OSHA 10/30 certification
Forklift certification
Electrical/Journeyman certification (if applicable to role level)
Ammonia refrigeration or boiler license (if applicable to facility)
