Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a fleet of high-end CNC equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment installation support, and collaboration with production teams in a clean, well-organized shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on approximately 20 or more pieces of high-end CNC equipment to keep them in optimal working condition.
  • Carry out lubrication, inspection, and diagnostic activities on machinery, identifying issues and repairing or replacing faulty components as needed.
  • Coordinate with machinery vendors to order repair or replacement parts, ensuring timely sourcing of required components.
  • Develop, set up, and execute formal preventive maintenance schedules for CNC equipment and plant systems.
  • Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with applicable safety regulations and internal safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with professional equipment operators and factory personnel to understand production needs and equipment requirements.
  • Support the installation and basic setup of new machinery and equipment within the facility.
  • Apply strong mechanical aptitude to maintain and repair mechanical systems, including electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance tasks.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, and working in various positions to access equipment and building systems.
  • Utilize basic welding skills when needed for equipment repair or fabrication tasks.
  • Use basic computer skills to document maintenance activities, access manuals, and communicate with internal teams and vendors.
  • Participate in training, including one week of off-site or distance training per year, to stay current on equipment and maintenance best practices.
  • Identify, locate, and source replacement parts efficiently to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Conduct physical building and plant maintenance, including general facility upkeep and minor repairs.
  • Assist with HVAC-related maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Perform PLC troubleshooting as required to support CNC and other automated equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work on complex mechanical systems.
  • Good aptitude for electrical systems, including basic electrical maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Good aptitude for hydraulics and pneumatics, including diagnosing and repairing related components.
  • Experience with CNC maintenance, including preventive and corrective maintenance on CNC machinery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues systematically and accurately.
  • Experience with preventive and corrective maintenance programs in an industrial environment.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation, communication, and accessing technical information.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Physical stamina to perform lifting, bending, and working in various positions for extended periods.
  • Basic knowledge of welding techniques and equipment.
  • Experience with HVAC systems is a plus.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of machine installation and setup.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as an electrician or experience in electrical work is a plus.
  • HVAC experience is a plus and supports building and equipment maintenance.
  • CNC maintenance experience beyond the minimum requirements is highly valued.
  • Welding experience beyond basic knowledge is a plus for fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Ability to participate in and benefit from one week of annual distance or off-site training.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues.
  • Effective communication skills to work with operators, management, and external vendors.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate maintenance records.
  • Comfort working in a structured preventive maintenance environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very well-kept, organized shop environment that emphasizes employee feedback on equipment and tools needed to perform at a high level. The technician has access to high-end CNC machinery, hand and power tools, and a dedicated rolling workstation. The standard schedule is a 4.5-day work week totaling 40 hours, with Monday through Thursday as 9-hour shifts offering flexible start times between approximately 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., and a 4-hour half day on Friday. The facility uses modern industrial technologies, including CNC equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC systems, and PLC-controlled machinery. Uniforms are provided, and a safety shoe allowance is available, supporting a professional, safety-focused dress code appropriate for an industrial maintenance setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boylston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
