What a Day Looks Like
You kick off by reviewing work orders and blueprints, then dive into 3D CAD to visualize features and tolerances. You map out the machining strategy, decide where and how the material should be cut, and translate that plan into CAM using WorkNC. After verifying toolpaths, you set up the mill—tramming/indicating vices and/or work material—then load and prove out programs on multi‑axis equipment such as Tarus 3+2, Doosan (DN) 5‑axis, or Hermle machines. You run the first article, fine‑tune feeds, speeds, and strategies, and revise programs to boost efficiency. Throughout, you document actions and irregularities to maintain continuity between shifts, perform preventive maintenance, and follow safety procedures without compromise.
What You’ll Do
- Produce precise components by setting up and operating mills and CNC machines.
- Plan machining processes from work orders and blueprints; review and interpret 3D CAD.
- Set up mills by tramming/indicating vices and/or work material for accurate alignment.
- Create CAM programs in WorkNC; determine cut locations, sequences, and tooling.
- Establish job order, perform required calculations, and optimize cycle times.
- Revise existing programs to increase throughput and quality.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations; maintain a clean, safe work area.
- Complete preventive maintenance to keep equipment in peak condition.
- Document and communicate actions, irregularities, and needs to ensure smooth handoffs across shifts.
What You Bring
- Hands‑on CNC machining and programming experience.
- Background running Tarus 3+2 and/or 5‑axis Doosan (DN) or Hermle equipment (preferred).
- Proficiency programming with WorkNC, including familiarity with 5‑Axis modules.
- Controller familiarity: Fanuc, Haas, Fidia, and Heidenhain.
