PGS Worldwide is seeking a CNC Milling Machinist in Palmdale, CA for a one-year contract role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.

The CNC Milling Machinist will support aerospace tooling and prototype manufacturing by setting up, programming, and operating 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC milling machines. This role involves machining precision parts, assemblies, installations, and production metal products using HAAS mill machines while working from blueprints, engineering specifications, GD&T requirements, and detailed machining instructions.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of related machining experience in an aerospace, military, or manufacturing environment.
  • CNC milling experience.
  • Machining lathe experience.
  • Experience programming and operating 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC machines with simultaneous movements.
  • Experience with Mastercam or related CAM software.
  • GD&T experience in design and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to design and create customized fixtures and tooling for jobs.
  • Ability to set up and operate manual, universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines.
  • Ability to perform machining operations involving compound angles, contours, angular boring, helical milling, spiral milling, serrating, gear cutting, spline cutting, and keyway cutting.
  • Ability to select, mount, and align specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling.
  • Ability to plan machining sequences, number of cuts, setup methods, speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to perform standard shop computations.
  • Ability to measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
  • Ability to fabricate parts, assemblies, installations, and repair production metal products.
  • Ability to follow FOE/foreign object debris, clean-as-you-go, housekeeping, PPE, safety, and hazardous waste requirements.
  • Ability to perform moderate to strenuous physical and repetitive work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 35 pounds, working overhead or at heights, and accessing small/confined spaces.
  • Ability to pass a new-hire physical.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance and Special Program Access within a reasonable period.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in an aviation rapid prototype or experimental fabrication environment.
  • Experience using Siemens NX, CATIA, or other CAD modeling programs.
  • Experience working with composites, aluminum, titanium, and Inconel.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance with investigation within the last 5.5 years.
  • Aerospace parts experience.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of ERP/SAP.
  • Innovative and self-motivated approach to machining work.

What You’ll Do

  • Set up, program, and operate 3-axis and/or 5-axis CNC milling machines.
  • Use HAAS 3-axis and 5-axis mill machines to fabricate aerospace parts, assemblies, installations, and production metal products.
  • Perform precision machining operations to exacting tolerances.
  • Machine compound angles, contours, angular holes, helical and spiral features, serrations, gears, splines, and keyways.
  • Select, mount, and align machine attachments, tooling, fixtures, and improvised tooling as needed.
  • Plan machining sequences, setups, speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, engineering specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments to verify work.
  • Lay out stock for machining by measuring, marking, and scribing reference points.
  • Design and create custom fixtures and tooling for machining jobs.
  • Monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other quality control procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow FOE, PPE, safety, housekeeping, and hazardous waste requirements.

Work Schedule / Shift

  • Onsite in Palmdale, CA.
  • 4x10 schedule, Monday–Thursday.

Pay

  • $61.96/hour
