Long Description General Characteristics and purpose Prepares and operates a computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine used in the production of parts. Has knowledge on the operation of machine equipment and ensures that the machine works as programmed.
Representative Activities • Selects tools required to produce parts and prepares machines. • Loads parts onto fixtures and performs machining operation. • Checks finished part against blueprint, debugs and submits for approval. • Operates assigned (CNC) machine, or may work a related group of (CNC) machines of similar complexity. • Understands working properties of common metals, reads blueprints. • Unload finished products from the machine. • Maintain a clean, well-organized workstation. • May perform minor adjustments to machine and operating procedures to maintain quality.
Typically reports to a supervisor, team leader or superintendent within the production department.
Scope Variants • Operates a broad range of machines (up to 10), has multidiscipline experience. • Can independently set up the installation of complex machines.
Quality control • May be involved in troubleshooting, analysis and feedback to the production process with the goal to increase production quality.
