Overview
Electric Boat is seeking to hire an experienced NC (Numerical Control) programmer to join its technical team in order to support meeting the needs of company growth driven by Columbia and Virginia Class programs. The Groton, CT Machine Shop has been the premier manufacturer of high-profile and intricate submarine components manufactured out of exotic materials such as Inconel, Monel, K-Monel, Titanium.
The selected individual must have a strong background in not just the development of efficient tool paths to support G-Code generation, but must have at least 4 years of experience working as a machinist in a high-mix, low-volume job shop environment and be capable of independently selecting appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, speeds, feeds, etc. The selected individual must also have experience in the machining of large or complex components on a variety of machinery such as horizontal boring mills, vertical turning centers or 2, 3 and 5 axis vertical mills and horizontal lathes.

Competence in interpretation of mechanical drawings and complex blueprints.
Thorough understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
Ability to compute mathematical problems including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry for calculating angles and distances.
Thorough knowledge of machining data (i.e. speeds, feeds, tooling) for cutting a variety of materials (Steels, Stainless Steels, Monel, K-Monel, Inconel, Bronze, Titanium, etc.).
Determine the optimal sequence of operations, select appropriate cutting tools and calculate speeds/feeds for various materials.
Prove out and Support: Lead first-article runs on the shop floor, trouble shooting programs in real-time and adjusting machine offsets to hit target tolerances.
