Compass Systems and Sales LLC, a custom engineering and fabricator of material conveying systems, is seeking a Programmer / Machinist for our Barberton, Ohio location.
 
OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team.  Compass Systems has a strong background in fabrication, and assembly; we are currently adding machining to our core capabilities.  We are firstly looking for an individual that can help us start our machine shop from the ground up and help us fully utilize our large investment into CNC Milling and Turning centers.  In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various precision machining centers to produce high-quality components This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about manufacturing, machining, and technical craftsmanship to thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can play a key role in shaping the future of our machine shop.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  EIA/ISO programming, and machine conversational interface experience.
  • Working with Manufacturing Engineering to layout/produce/design work fixtures and custom tools as required.
  • Manage, maintain, inventory, and purchase tooling as needed for jobs.
  • Work with Engineering to review and recommend changes when needed to drawings and material specifications.
  • Manage, maintain, inventory, and purchase material stock as needed for jobs.
  • Preform “first article inspections” before full production runs and perform post batch inspection based on drawing GD&T.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain equipment by completing manufacturer and customer preventive maintenance requirements and scheduling larger repairs when needed.
  • Ability to apply common sense in understanding and carrying out instructions furnished in oral, written and diagrammatic form; locate and identify problems involving technical set up and operation.
 
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED
  •  High school diploma or equivalent
  •  Previous machining required, preferably 6+ years of applicable experience
  •  Motivated individual possessing the ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude.
  •  Demonstrates positive safety attitude.
  •  Ability to operate overhead cranes, motorized lift equipment, handheld assembly tools.
  •  Ability to stand for 8 or more hours and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
 
DESIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
  • Producing programs for parts using CAD/CAM software
  • Develop documentation around tool setup and operation procedures.
  • Propose design/process changes around repeatability and cost improvement opportunities.
  • Applicable 2-year technical degree
  • 10+ years experience
