Position Summary
The Machine Shop Supervisor will lead daily operations of a CNC turning department producing machined bronze and aluminum components for industrial and municipal applications. This role combines hands-on CNC lathe setup and programming with leadership responsibilities including workflow coordination, scheduling, quality oversight, and inventory control.

The shop operates a mix of automated and manual CNC turning equipment, including a twin-spindle Mazak lathe with gantry automation, a Doosan CNC lathe, and a CNC lathe equipped with Y-axis and live tooling. This is not a mill-turn environment; the focus is efficient, repeatable CNC turning with integrated secondary operations performed in the lathe where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily operations of a 6-person CNC machine shop with four CNC lathes, including job assignment, scheduling, and workflow management.
• Oversee production across multiple CNC lathes, including automated twin-spindle and gantry-fed equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and machining specifications; ensure work is completed to print and tolerance.
• Set up, program, and support CNC lathes, including live-tooling and Y-axis operations where applicable.
• Machine parts requiring secondary features completed in the lathe, such as cross-drilled and tapped ports, bolt-hole patterns, face drilling, and milled flats.
• Support machining of valve bodies, flanged components, pump cylinders, couplings, and custom bronze/aluminum castings.
• Perform first-article setups, troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues, and assist operators as needed.
• Ensure quality through in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, and indicators.
• Maintain inventory of in-process and finished parts; coordinate material, tooling, and consumable needs.
• Promote safe, organized, and consistent machining practices.
• Drive continuous improvement by reducing cycle times, improving setup efficiency, optimizing automation workflows, and training machinists on best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of CNC lathe experience including setup and programming.
• Experience working with live-tooling CNC lathes.
• Strong understanding of production machining and repeatable processes.
• Ability to lead machinists while remaining hands-on.
• Proficient with precision measuring tools.
