You’re handed a metric blueprint and CAD file. You translate critical dimensions to inch, choose tools, set work offsets, and run a careful dry cycle. In Fusion 360 (or AutoCAD/SolidWorks/Mastercam), you write and tune G-code, then adjust feeds, speeds, and tool offsets to match the material. You verify with calipers, micrometers, and gauges—dimensionally perfect and the right surface finish—before moving the job into steady production. Along the way, you document settings and maintenance, and you flag any process improvements that make the next run even better.
Your core responsibilities
Set up and operate Haas CNC lathes to produce precise parts from metric drawings.
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD data; convert from metric to inch for programming and inspection.
Develop and optimize CNC programs via G-code and CAD/CAM platforms (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
Adjust cutting parameters and offsets for material type and thickness to preserve quality and reduce waste.
Inspect components with precision tools and confirm all dimensional and surface finish specs.
Partner with engineering and production to ensure tooling meets safety and performance expectations.
Keep thorough records of programs, machine settings, and maintenance; support continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform routine maintenance and maintain a clean, safe workstation.
What it takes
High school diploma or equivalent.
3+ years of CNC lathe setup and operation experience.
Proficiency with G-code and CAD/CAM (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Mastercam).
Strong understanding of prints, tolerances, and materials.
Mandatory skill: convert metric to imperial confidently.
Haas control familiarity is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving and meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
