Beta is a Title I Schoolwide campus. I understand that part or all of this job could be funded with federal funds.

Primary Function

Responsible for the preparation and serving of all menu items at an individual campus. Lead of opening kitchen duties, ensuring all deliveries are thoroughly inspected and accounted for, and providing joyful customer service to our scholars during meal service.

Terms of Employment

Full-time / 10 months / Hourly / 6:00 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.

Kitchen Lead Responsibilities

  • Assist in executing any and all meal programs (grab n go, field trip meals, traditional breakfast/lunch, special diets, etc.)
  • Maintain child nutrition program compliance and program integrity.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate food service equipment appropriately.
  • Responsible for knowing units of measurement used in preparation/production and ability to make appropriate conversions and sizing adjustments as needed.
  • Ability to prepare food products following a standardized recipe.
  • Assure all menu items are prepared according to established policies, procedures, and in sufficient quantities to satisfy volumes.
  • Assures presentation of all menu items adheres to established standards.
  • Serve all menu items using established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the serving line is adequately stocked with utensils, napkins, and applicable condiments.
  • Expected to be able to work in a fast-paced environment all while providing excellent customer service, program compliance, and resolving conflicts under pressure.
  • Serve/hold food that is the correct serving/holding temperature and quality. Any substandard quality food must be documented and properly discarded.
  • Receive deliveries, inspects for quality and quantity. Report any discrepancies immediately to the Child Nutrition Director and/or designee.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels of food/supplies, report on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to the Child Nutrition Director and/or designee.
  • Clean kitchen and serving area continually.
  • Maintains appearance of all equipment and serving counters.
  • Leads taking inventory of food at the end of each meal service; records leftovers in addition to maintaining accurate records of foods produced and served for food production records.
  • Assists in cleaning kitchen area and equipment and utensils to ensure that sanitation codes are maintained; washes pots, pans, and serving utensils by hand.
  • Perform various housekeeping or janitorial duties in the kitchen such as sweeping and mopping and in dining areas, such as washing and sanitizing tables, chairs and serving areas.
  • Complete equipment/food temperature logs daily.
  • Teach our scholars the importance of responsibility and teamwork when it comes to keeping our cafeterias clean, create special moments with them daily, and learn their first names.
  • Perform other related duties required by CNP Director and/or designee.

Certification and/or License Requirements

  • Must hold a Food Handlers Certificate or obtain one within 60 days of employment.

Education Requirement

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or one-year relevant work experience in food service

Job Requirements/Regulations

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs or 50 lb with assistance
  • Must complete 6 hours of USDA Professional Standard training, annually.
  • Work flexible hours (early mornings, longer/shorter shifts, nights)
  • Must wear a hair restraint and non-slip shoes.
  • No jewelry besides a wedding band or necklace that can be tucked into shirt
  • Nails must be kept short and unpolished
  • No wearing of strong perfumes/cologne
  • No cell phone use unless an emergency

Professionalism & Communication

  • Demonstrate professionalism by being in regular attendance and arriving on time to work, staff meetings, parent nights and other assigned duties. Must be able to work early mornings.
  • Complete required training(s) on time.
  • Check staff email a minimum of twice daily and all staff texts.
  • Follow through on assignments and show independence by completing tasks from beginning to end.
  • Work cooperatively to create an atmosphere of unity among the school community and refrain and stop any gossip, negativity, and unsupportive comments.
  • Read and comply with all child nutrition policies and procedures. Includes but not limited to; HACCP/SOP’s, Scholar Special Dietary Needs, USDA’s Parent Complaint Form, Field Trip Order Forms, Meal Charge Policy, Cash Collection and Handling, Local School Wellness Policy, and Emergency Preparedness Plan.
  • Read and comply with the Procedures Manual, Employee Handbook, Scholar Handbook and Scholar Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrate professionalism at ALL times. Exercise wisdom by remaining calm, respectful, and non-defensive during disagreements and personal attacks.
  • Utilize professional communication with strong grammar, syntax, usage and/or spelling skills during phone conversations, personal conversations, emails, and social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance and follow the Beta Academy standard of dress. Apply this standard of dress to personal social media posts in regards to modesty in dress and action (ex: swimsuit, cleavage, & shirtless pictures, in addition to posts with alcohol, cigarettes, and bars etc.).
