Co-Teacher
Reports To: Director / Assistant Director / Owner
School Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–6:00 PM
Position SummaryA Co-Teacher works as an equal member of the classroom team to provide a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can learn and grow. Co-Teachers share responsibility for classroom routines, curriculum implementation, child supervision, family communication, classroom organization, and maintaining a positive learning environment. Both teachers work together to ensure the classroom meets all state licensing, Quality Assurance (QA), and Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards.
Teaching & Classroom Responsibilities- Work collaboratively with your co-teacher to plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and daily learning experiences.
- Share responsibility for maintaining a welcoming, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
- Provide consistent supervision, guidance, and support to all children in the classroom.
- Build positive, nurturing relationships with children and their families.
- Observe and support children's individual developmental needs and milestones.
- Maintain accurate classroom records, assessments, lesson plans, and required documentation.
- Display children's work, curriculum documentation, and classroom learning in meaningful ways.
- Communicate openly and professionally with your co-teacher regarding classroom routines, children's needs, and daily responsibilities.
- Work together to establish consistent expectations, routines, and classroom management strategies.
- Share responsibility for daily transitions, meals, nap/rest time, diapering or toileting, outdoor activities, and classroom cleanup.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive partnership with your co-teacher.
Health, Safety & Compliance- Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of every child through active supervision and adherence to all school policies.
- Maintain compliance with all state licensing regulations, Quality Assurance expectations, and Texas Rising Star (TRS) standards.
- Keep the classroom clean, organized, inspection-ready, and compliant at all times.
- Complete required documentation, attendance records, incident reports, and other classroom paperwork accurately and on time.
- Follow all health, sanitation, emergency, and safety procedures.
- Participate in coaching, training, classroom observations, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Professional Expectations- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Arrive prepared and on time each day.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with your co-teacher, administration, children, and families.
- Work as an equal partner with your co-teacher and contribute to a positive classroom culture.
- Be willing to communicate, compromise, and share responsibilities to ensure the classroom runs smoothly.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when discussing children, families, and staff.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Be willing to assist in other classrooms or areas of the school when needed.
- Uphold the school's mission, values, and commitment to excellence in early childhood education.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous childcare experience preferred.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must meet all state licensing requirements.
Physical Requirements- Lift and carry children up to and over 50 pounds.
- Frequently bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods.
- Participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
