Penington Painting Company is a family-owned coatings contractor specializing in industrial and commercial coatings. We perform coating preparation and application, including chemical-resistant coatings, on floors, walls, ceilings, and other substrates based on each project’s requirements. We are currently seeking a Coatings Quality Control Manager to help ensure our coatings work meets project specifications and PPC quality standards from surface preparation through final coat. This hands-on role combines field inspection, quality planning, documentation, and coordination with foremen, crews, project teams, owners, and design professionals.

About the Role 

You will inspect and document coatings work from surface preparation through final coat and help maintain project Quality Control Plans and closeout records. The role requires strong field judgment, disciplined documentation, and clear communication with field and project teams. 

Key Responsibilities 

Field Inspection and Verification 

• Verify surface preparation meets project specifications and applicable AMPP and SSPC standards before coating application. 
• Measure and document dry film thickness and confirm compliance with project requirements. 
• Monitor and record dew point, ambient temperature, surface temperature, and relative humidity within the approved application window. 
• Confirm coating systems are applied in accordance with manufacturer product data sheets, including coat requirements, specified film thickness, and recoat windows. 
• Coordinate mockups and test panels for owner and architect review and approval. 

Quality Planning and Documentation 

• Develop and maintain project Quality Control Plans with the project team, including inspection points and hold points. 
• Maintain complete QC records, including daily reports, dated photographs, inspection results, and closeout documentation. 
• Track punch-list items, rework, and non-conformances through resolution. 
• Communicate quality requirements and inspection results clearly to field and project teams. 

Team and Safety 

• Participate in jobsite safety meetings and safety walks. 
• Support the Safety Manager where quality-control and safety requirements overlap. 
• Collaborate with project management and production teams to keep quality requirements on track. 
• Work directly with foremen and crews to identify, communicate, and resolve quality concerns. 

The Ideal Candidate 

The ideal candidate is standards-driven and detail-oriented, with strong documentation habits, solid communication skills, and the credibility to work directly with foremen and crews in the field. This person is comfortable identifying quality concerns, explaining requirements, and following issues through resolution. 

Experience 

• Coatings or industrial construction quality-control experience: 3+ years preferred 
• Experience with industrial coatings, protective coatings, concrete coatings, or chemical-resistant coating systems is a plus
