The Village of Lincolnwood is seeking a detail-oriented, community-focused individual to serve as its next Code Enforcement Officer. The Village of Lincolnwood, Illinois is a diverse, home-rule community located directly north of Chicago. Covering 2.7 square miles, the Village features a distinctive mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and manufacturing districts. The Code Enforcement Officer plays an essential role in both the organization and the community by ensuring consistent standards and supporting the upkeep of safe, well-maintained neighborhoods.

Reporting to the Building Official, the Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for inspecting and enforcing the Village’s property maintenance and zoning codes. Key duties include conducting site inspections, documenting violations, and participating in Administrative Hearings as necessary. The role requires regular interaction with residents, contractors, and Village staff, and strong professional communication skills in both verbal and written formats.

The Essential Functions of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect sites for zoning or property maintenance code compliance as a result of complaints by residents, as direct assignments by supervisor, or as self-initiated.
  • Documents all violations in written and photographic form for use in the Administrative Hearing process as needed along with testifying during the Administrative Hearing.
  • Provide technical assistance to residents, businesses, landlords, contractors, and property owners regarding Village codes, zoning regulations, property maintenance standards, business licensing requirements, and enforcement procedures.
  • Prepare notices of violation, legal notices, citations, correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other relevant communications.
  • Coordinate enforcement activities with Community Development, Village departments and Legal Counsel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Education, and Experience:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Candidates must have one to three years of experience in the inspection field. If not already certified, the ICC Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification must be obtained within the first 18 months of employment. A Valid Driver’s License is required.

Hours and Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $65,369 to $ $88,248 annually. The Code Enforcement Officer is a full-time non-exempt position. The positions hours may vary depending on community needs and works a total of 35 hours per week.
