Are you an experienced inpatient coder who is passionate about accuracy, compliance, and the integrity of healthcare data? Join our team as a Coding Specialist III, where you’ll play a critical role in ensuring clinical documentation is accurately translated into coded data that supports patient care, regulatory reporting, and reimbursement.

In this remote position, you’ll leverage your expertise in ICD-10 coding, clinical documentation review, and data abstraction while collaborating with healthcare professionals and serving as a trusted resource for coding best practices.

What You’ll Do

As a Coding Specialist III, you will:

• Review clinical documentation and assign accurate ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure codes for designated patient populations.
• Analyze medical records to ensure diagnoses, procedures, and discharge information are accurately reflected in the coded record.
• Abstract key clinical data from the health record in accordance with regulatory, client, and organizational requirements.
• Apply coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices to support data integrity and compliance.
• Utilize available resources and coding tools to complete assigned work accurately and efficiently.
• Collaborate with providers and client staff to clarify documentation and support compliant coding practices, including provider query processes when appropriate.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities to maintain and enhance coding expertise.
• Stay current on ICD-10 coding guidelines, regulatory updates, and healthcare industry changes.
• Support organizational compliance initiatives and promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and excellence.

What You’ll Bring

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• An active AHIMA credential, such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA.
• At least three (3) years of recent inpatient and facility coding experience, including one or more of the following:
  • Acute Inpatient
  • Observation
  • Rehabilitation
  • Psychiatric
  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)
• Strong knowledge of:
  • Medical terminology
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Pharmacology
  • Pathophysiology
  • ICD-10 coding guidelines and conventions
• A demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of coding accuracy and quality while meeting productivity expectations.
• Strong critical thinking, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• The ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

You’ll stand out if you have:

• An Associate degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or a related healthcare field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience working in a production coding environment.
• Experience using multiple Electronic Medical Record (EMR) platforms, including Epic, Cerner, and Meditech.
• Experience with encoder applications such as 3M and TruCode.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $28.00–$34.00 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors including geographic location, relevant experience, certifications, education, and skills.
