The Coding Auditor and Educator should be proficient in coding and auditing all types of pediatric coding cases, applying the correct ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT procedural codes (outpatient), and/or ICD-10-PCS procedural codes (inpatient) while striving for accuracy and optimal reimbursement.

This position supports the importance of accurate, complete and consistent coding practices for the production of quality health care data.

This position will review the coding accuracy and provide coding support and education for the coding team.

Experience:

  • 5+ years knowledge of reimbursement regulations required
  • Pediatric coding experience preferred
  • Experience coding through an encoder, and proficiency in Windows based applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint required

Licenses and Certifications:

  • CCS-Certified Coding Specialist - American Health Information Management Association required


Education:

  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
  • Associate's Degree preferred or
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Requires knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT classification systems as well as the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
  • Requires the ability to assess coder education needs, and then develop and deliver coder education plans.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communications with medical staff, peers, management and other hospital personnel.
  • Requires ability to adapt and participate in frequent changes of policies and procedures in response to internal and external requirements for health care data.
  • Requires ability to maintain accuracy, work independently and resolve problems effectively.
