$18/hour. Part-time, 6–15 hours per week, in person.

ACADEMIC CREDIT

\n

This position is structured as an internship for college students majoring in Computer Science.

\n

  • CCSU and Eastern Connecticut State University students can receive three academic credits toward a 300-level CS course.
  • \n
  • UConn and Quinnipiac students: this qualifies as a full internship experience for Computer Science students.

WHO WE ARE

theCoderSchool is an after-school drop-off program where kids learn to code in a fun and engaging environment. Our Connecticut locations are Farmington, Glastonbury, Cheshire, and Branford. We create a fun, energetic and inspirational learning environment that helps students discover their inner hacker.

\n


\n

WHAT YOU'LL DO

\n

As a Code Coach, you will mentor incredible students, teach them to code, and help them learn to think like programmers. You'll join a supportive team of instructors who love technology and teaching. Most schedules are consistent weekly time slots.

\n

Code Coaching (1:1 or 2:1 lessons)

\n
  • \n
  • Personalized lessons with one or two students at a time
  • \n
  • Younger students typically learn Scratch or Snap
  • \n
  • Older students work in Python, JavaScript, Java or C++
  • \n
  • Students build games, apps and projects based on their own interests
  • \n
  • Creativity and personalization are strongly encouraged
  • \n

Code Classes

  • \n
  • Small group classes following a structured curriculum
  • \n
  • Primarily block-based coding and Python
  • \n
  • Small ratios, typically 4:1 or 5:1
  • \n
\n

REQUIREMENTS

\n

Passion — this role is about inspiring kids while sharing your love of technology.

\n


\n

Communication — you must be a strong communicator, comfortable with both students and parents. Patience and positivity are essential.

\n


\n

Education — pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Veteran coaches may also qualify with relevant industry experience.

\n


\n

Coding skills — you must know basic Python, be willing to learn advanced Python, and be willing to learn block-based coding (Scratch). Helpful but not required: JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Java, Roblox (Lua), Minecraft block coding. Unity is a bonus. Deep expertise is not required — we value coaches who can problem solve and learn alongside students.

Teaching experience in any subject is a plus.

\n


\n

Work authorization — must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We do not sponsor visas.

\n


\n

Location — must be able to commute and work in person in Branford. We also have openings in Farmington, Glastonbury and Cheshire.

\n


\n

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

\n

We run full-day summer camps, 9:00am-3:00pm Monday through Friday, mid-June through mid-August, at roughly 30 hours per week. Summer interviews begin in March.
