Position Summary

The Coffee & Breaks Captain oversees the setup, service, replenishment, and breakdown of coffee breaks and non-alcoholic beverage functions throughout the convention center. Under the direction of the Supervisor Team, this role leads and supports event staff, coordinates with Culinary and other departments, and ensures stations are properly stocked, presented, and maintained. The Coffee & Breaks Captain ensures timely, efficient service while maintaining high standards for guest service, food safety, sanitation, and overall event execution.

This role will pay an hourly rate of $22.00 - $25.00.

About the Venue

The Palm Beach County Convention Center is a multi-purpose facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, managed by Oak View Group. The Center features a 100,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 22,000-square-foot ballroom, and 21,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, as well as connecting to the 400-room Hilton West Palm Beach.

Responsibilities

• Reviews BEOs to ensure all Coffee Breaks & Beverage details, quantities, timing, locations, and special requests are understood and met.
• Conducts pre-event meetings to review assignments, service expectations, appearance, and hygiene standards.
• Coordinates with Supervisors, Managers, Culinary, and other departments to ensure event requirements are met.
• Communicates event changes and additional instructions to staff in a timely manner.
• Reviews upcoming events and ensures required food/snacks, beverages, supplies, equipment, and serviceware are available.
• Inspects Coffee Breaks & Beverage areas to ensure stations are properly set, clean, stocked, and ready for service.
• Coordinates with Culinary on food/snack quantities, beverage needs, and timing for service.
• Oversees setup, replenishment, maintenance, and breakdown of Coffee Breaks & Beverage stations.
• Monitors food, beverages, and supplies throughout service to maintain proper quantities, quality, temperature, and presentation.
• Conducts service checks to ensure cleanliness, organization, and guest service standards are maintained.
• Ensures proper handling, cleaning, and storage of equipment, china, glassware, linens, and other service items.
• Assigns and directs staff during events, providing coaching and support as needed.
• Addresses guest and client requests or concerns promptly and professionally.
• Trains and mentors Coffee & Breaks staff on service and convention center standards.
• Ensures staff follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety requirements.
• Monitors product usage and communicates inventory or replenishment needs to management.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support successful event execution.

Qualifications

• 1-2+ years of experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume catering or restaurant environment.
• High school diploma or G.E.D., or related food service job experience.
• Ability to work weekdays and weekends, with availability for some morning, noon, and evening shifts on an on-call/event-based schedule.
• Must acquire and maintain a Food Handlers Card, Alcohol Awareness Certification, and other required compliance trainings.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
• Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner that focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
