This role blends hands-on machine setup and operation with departmental leadership responsibilities. Job Details

Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation:
Set up, operate, and oversee cold heading machines used in the production of high-precision fasteners
Perform complete tooling and die setups, including efficient changeovers on single-die, two-blow, and multi-die headers
Verify first-piece approvals and conduct routine in-process inspections
Measure and inspect parts using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and optical comparators
Diagnose and correct machine, tooling, and process issues to reduce downtime and scrap
Perform routine preventive maintenance and support equipment reliability initiatives

Production & Process Oversight:
Monitor multiple machines to ensure consistent quality, throughput, and efficiency
Adjust processes to improve cycle times, productivity, and overall equipment performance
Maintain accurate documentation related to production output, inspections, and tooling usage
Ensure compliance with work instructions, quality requirements, and safety standards

Leadership & Team Development:
Lead and support cold heading operators on the shop floor
Train and mentor operators on setups, tooling, troubleshooting, and best practices
Coordinate workflow and communicate effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams
Promote a culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, safety, and quality

Qualifications
Required:
Extensive hands-on experience setting up and operating cold heading equipment (multi-die experience strongly preferred)
Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to independently troubleshoot and adjust machinery
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, job routers, and technical drawings
Proficiency using precision measurement and inspection equipment
Solid understanding of cold forming processes, tooling, and dies
Ability to work independently while effectively leading others
High school diploma or GED

Preferred:
Experience with multi-die header brands commonly used in fastener manufacturing
Background in fastener, aerospace, or high-volume precision component production
Working knowledge of GD&T
Previous experience training, leading, or supervising production personnel

Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 15 years of cold heading setup and operational experience
Prior lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of machine performance, quality outcomes, and team success
