Cold Heading and Metal Forming Operator
Step onto the floor at 4:00 PM in our Mundelein, IL plant, where precision and momentum define the shift. You’ll start your journey on first shift (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM) for 4–6 months of hands-on training, then transition to second shift (4:00 PM – 2:30 AM) where you’ll keep production humming. A Day in the Life
You’ll set up and run forming equipment (cold heading, hot forming, and related machines), dialing in tooling and alignment to hit production rates. Throughout the run, you’ll measure, verify, and record critical dimensions, adjusting on the fly to keep quality tight and uptime high. You’ll partner with Quality and Maintenance to troubleshoot issues, complete routine preventive care, and maintain a clean, organized cell. Safety is your constant—procedures are followed, hazards are mitigated, and teammates look out for each other.
What You’ll Do
- Operate forming machinery per documented work instructions and procedures
- Set up machines, verify tooling and alignment, and optimize for throughput and stability
- Inspect parts during and after runs using micrometers, calipers, and visual checks
- Monitor performance, perform routine maintenance, and prevent downtime
- Accurately log production counts and inspection results in paper or electronic systems
- Collaborate with Quality and Maintenance to resolve process or equipment issues
- Maintain a clean, orderly workstation and uphold all safety protocols

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in manufacturing or production
- Ability to thrive in a physical, fast-paced setting (lift up to 40 lbs; stand for extended periods)
- Willingness to work the required shift and overtime as needed
- Solid basic math and reading comprehension
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on time with cold headers, hot formers, or similar forming equipment
- Exposure to lean, 5S, or continuous improvement practices
- Background in metal forming or automotive manufacturing
