The Collection Lab RN performs both independent nursing and delegated medical functions. The independent nursing includes assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patient population(s) in the ambulatory care setting. The delegated medical functions include participation in and coordination of delegated patient care to other health care team members. The Collection Lab RN is responsible for performing these functions and working in collaboration with providers and care team to perform these functions in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines. The Collection Lab RN manages central lines for patients in the outpatient space and delivers care that is sensitive to the unique needs of the ages served by the clinic. This RN performs sterile procedures such as PORT access and access to other central venous catheters to draw central or peripheral labs as part of the patient's treatment plan pre, post, or independent of a clinic or infusion appointment. Additional care may include but is not limited to central and peripheral IV initiation and management, order management, medication administration, monitoring response to interventions, prompt recognition and intervention of emergency situations, preparing and delivering patient education, monitoring and taking vital signs, chart reviews, documentation, phone triage, coordination of care with providers and care team including rooming and discharging, assessing appointments, and monitoring standards of care.
