Starting Pay: $18.85 per hour

The Collection System Operator I-IV position involves performing a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of the collection system. Utilizing trade knowledge in a specialized field of wastewater collection system operation and maintenance, and continuing education through the MDE Water & Wastewater Operator Certification process, position works from detailed instructions and under standard procedures, methods and practices to operate and maintain the City of Hagerstown's wastewater utility. Position performs related labor as required, and other related tasks assigned. Position operates equipment as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the collection system.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Collection System Technology and/or sewer construction experience is preferred.
License & Certification: Must receive a passing score of 70% on pre-employment examination. Must acquire required certifications within defined deadline from date of hire. Must have a valid vehicle operator's license and satisfactory driving records in accordance with City policy.
Essential Functions: • Operates and performs preventative, routine, emergency, and/or technical maintenance on Wastewater Division - Collection System underground utilities, such as, but not limited to: grinder pumps, wet wells, valves, gravity and low-pressure mains, laterals, flow monitors, atmospheric monitors, pumping/lift stations and associated devices, and related facilities while adhering to City safety policies. • Collects, develops, or enters data for work card system, work order system, maintenance databases, or other databases. • Will perform related duties as assigned.
