Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with accounting and/or collections experience to join our team as a Collections Assessments Desk Accounts Examiner III-IV. This position is on-site at our main offices in downtown Austin. TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine Unemployment Insurance tax records of employers to secure collection of past-due taxes in accordance with the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act and Texas Labor Code.
  • Review employer tax records to issue past-due notices, notices of assessment, and other enforcement actions, requests, or recommends issuance of tax liens and bank freezes and levies.
  • Review employer accounts to determine if lien release is appropriate and may issue lien releases.
  • Communicate with employers, attorneys, accountants, and others to resolve employer tax issues.
  • Respond to a heavy workload of telephone calls, electronic mail, digital merging of files, and letters from employers or their representatives.
  • Prepare sworn accounting documents and other legally acceptable documents used in collecting delinquent taxpayer accounts.
  • Determine proper entities upon whom service of legal documents should be accomplished and the method of service in accordance with state statutes.
  • May testify at formal or informal hearings or before courts of jurisdiction on behalf of the state.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Accounts Examiner III: Three years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work.
  • Accounts Examiner IV: Four years of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work.
  • Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.

What You Bring:

  • Strong analytical skills needed to make inferences and take appropriate collection action based on multiple accounts scenarios and varying data elements.
  • One to two years of experience in debt collection.
  • One to two years of experience with Microsoft MS Windows-based programs, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and spreadsheet applications.
  • One to two years of experience with Texas Workforce Tax system (a plus).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to provide information on tax laws and collection processes to interested parties.
  • Ability to compile information for computer entry for production of various legal documents, notices, forms, and letters.
