Position Summary: Responsible for timely and accurate collection of payments for medical services. Additionally, this position will be instrumental in following up on billed medical claims to determine the appropriate course of action to resolve the claims in accordance with state and federal guidelines to optimize reimbursement for medical services.

Essential Duties:

  • Follow up on claims by phone calls, insurance portals, clearing houses, and other resources. Phone calls to the patient may be necessary.
  • Review and analyze patient accounts to identify outstanding balances, insurance denials, and unpaid claims.
  • Ensures all documents are in order and submitted timely in accordance with state and federal standards.
  • Utilize various tools and systems to research, track, and resolve billing discrepancies and outstanding balances.
  • Accurate documentation of all collection activities in EMR.
  • Filing appeals and reconsideration requests on denied claims when appropriate.
  • Identify trends and communicate findings effectively for quick resolution.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  • Always maintains high standard of compliance in ethical and federal regulations.
  • Verifying and posting payments in EMR.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; Associate degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years medical billing and collections experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of billing requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance billing
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Experience verifying benefits through various insurance systems.
  • Ability to read and understand claims to effectively review and process billing and collecting requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with high volume of work while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Office and web enabled system applications.
