This position is responsible for the recruitment, pre-admission advisement, prospective student communication, admission processing, matriculation, and retention of new and returning students while also providing services and outreach programs to recruit and retain targeted student populations. The College Career Counselor will visit local high schools and assist students in academic planning, aligning the college course schedule with the high school course schedule, resolving academic difficulties, addressing personal challenges, planning K-12 partnership events to take place during normal operating hours as well as in the evenings, and providing information about the College's available support services & resources. May help with international admissions as needed.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree
Minimum (1) year full-time work experience in: academic advising at a regionally accredited college/university, OR counseling/teaching students in a high school setting

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is sedentary work which requires the person in this position to occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which one must convey detailed or important spoken information or instructions to others.
Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discrimination in sound.
Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Visual Acuity: Requires close visual acuity to perform activities such as but not limited to: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Work is performed in an office environment.
This position will require local travel to and from high schools in the local area.
Work is performed during office hours; some evening and weekend hours may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Counseling, high education, or public relations
(1) or more years of full-time work experience at a community college in admissions, financial aid, advisement, or recruitment.

40 hours per week when office is open, some weekends and additional evenings required.
General hours of operation for office:
Monday- Thursday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Staff schedule may vary within these hours based on the needs of the office.
Extended hours during heavy enrollment periods.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement)
Recruit new and returning students by providing accurate and timely pre-admission advisement to prospective students, parents, families and other members of the public.
Provide knowledgeable and professional representation of the college with students one-on-one advisement sessions and during on and off campus events.
Work directly with area high schools, technical centers, businesses, and other constituencies to develop relationships designed to recruit students.
Explore and recommend trends in higher education that support concurrent, new student, and returning student enrollment.
Plan and implement college recruitment activities, programs, and campaigns.
Attend events and make presentations to communicate with prospective students and their parents in an effort to promote OCCC and its programs.
Advise prospective students by providing individualized assistance with educational goal identification, program selection, assessment of entry level skills, payment/financial aid planning, and paths degree and/or certificate completion. Correspond with students offering advice, resources, or referral to other campus resources.
Through application of federal, state, college policies, and professional judgment determine admissions eligibility for applicants by evaluating required documents including transcripts, standardized test scores, and other academic records. Provide initial evaluation of transfer credit to determine admissions status and the presence of pre-/co-requisites.
Accurately process applications for admission, petitions, and other required documents to ensure that students receive accurate and timely notification of admissions decisions and other information prior to, during, and after the admissions process is complete.
Advise the recruitment and admissions team on significant matters and support other members of the Admissions team in their goals and operational purposes.
Participate in staff development programs and campus functions.
Effective student planning that promotes retention, degree completion, and/or career planning.
Equip the high school students with the resources to succeed in OCCC programs.
Collaborate with high school counselors, administrators, and parents of students at assigned high schools to build a success team leading to student success and retention.
Frequently visit the local high schools to meet with students and HS staff one-on-one to discuss any barriers impeding success.
Work one-on-one with students to create an action plan to address any issue(s) impeding their success.
Work collaboratively with all areas of the campus to increase opportunities for student achievement and to help students remove barriers they may encounter along their path to program completion.
Educates students on future academic planning and registration.
Stay current with federal, state, and college financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure accuracy and compliance in delivery of services to students.
Exhibits self-awareness and builds rapport in an open, friendly, and accepting way.
Assist in processing admissions applications and required documents for student admissions.
Each semester, organize multiple enrollment and advisement events, requiring presentations to large audiences, at assigned high schools to take place during normal operating hours as well as in the evenings to allow for parent/guardian attendance.
Assist in orientations and promotional events at OCCC and assigned high schools to include presenting to large groups in person and online.
