Position Summary Information

Key Responsibilities

Juniata College invites applicants for a part-time, on-site college counselor.

This position serves as a counselor for students to help a student to address personal, academic, and social stressors. The counselor will provide support through counseling sessions, crisis intervention and planning, outreach, consultation, and prevention services. The counselor makes meaningful contributions to student wellness by providing clinical sound, evidence-based, equitable, and compassionate mental health support. A component of the counselor position includes helping students who have experienced life-altering events and/or trauma; helping students to process their situation and to build resilience. The counselor candidate will have creative capacity to identify needs and build structural outreach to improve the campus experience for students and adhere to the mission of Glaeser Counseling Services: The Glaeser Counseling Services provides mental health services that nurture and promote the dignity, diversity, development, and worth of all individuals.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide short-term and longer-term mental health counseling or case management appropriate to the level of care at a college counseling center.
  • Provide therapy using individual, family, couple and/or group modalities.
  • Collaborate with on-campus partners to develop and implement programs supporting the campus mission of student success.
  • Assist students in identifying campus resources and making appropriate referrals per request and/or identified need of the student.
  • Maintain appropriate professional records on each client and communicate client information in a confidential and professional manner.
  • Provide consultation/training services to faculty, staff, caregivers and students to enhance personal development and wellness.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plan and behavioral goals, consulting with the Director of Counseling and contracted psychiatric team as appropriate.
  • Inform Director of Counseling of any difficulties related to student client's satisfaction, treatment issues, procedural concerns, and other departmental or public relations concerns.
  • Assure that all office procedures, policies, and required reports are developed, followed and completed in accordance with office procedures.
  • Work with the Director of Counseling to contribute to annual goals and objectives for Glaeser Counseling Services at Juniata College.
  • Work at designated areas as assigned to provide counseling services; i.e. Glaeser Counseling Services, the SPoT (Safe Place to Talk), Kennedy Sports & Recreation Center, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position is paid hourly and is not eligible for benefits. Estimated number of hours per week is 15 hours weekly, as arranged.

Position Qualifications

  • Master's degree in clinical counseling, psychology or social work.
  • Comfortability and/or experiences counseling college age clients.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Successful completion of background checks.

Supervision Required/Given

Operates within established regulations and procedures of Glaeser Counseling Services at Juniata College. Reports directly to the Director of Counseling, and indirectly to the Vice President for Student Life & Dean of Students
