General Description

This position involves intern-level for Neighborhoods under the umbrella of Resident Services. Intern will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of projects/events/programs for the City of Hamilton and 17STRONG, especially related to community development and engagement. The intern will work with Neighborhoods as well as other City Departments that would benefit from her knowledge, interest and expertise.
Essential Job Functions
Working in our 17 neighborhoods with cleanups, programs, projects or events
Supporting the needs of the 17STRONG committees
Developing content for 17STRONG Facebook, event flyers, and microgrant projects taking place during their internship
Flexible work schedule to include evening and weekend 17STRONG events
Driving the 17STRONG truck and Cube to 17STRONG events (training provided)
Skills/Knowledges/Abilities
Performs tasks designed to provide a hands-on exposure to the work field which has been chosen by the student.
May respond to telephone inquiries and provide information; may handle routine clerical functions for the work unit.
May gather, compile or display information. May be assigned to a research or information-gathering task.
Assists a supervisor on varied tasks of a more advanced nature. In technical fields, may be assigned to a particular
project with responsibility for many steps within the project.
May perform diverse, clerical tasks and/or data entry.
Training/Education/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 19 years of age, and;
Must possess a valid drivers license [Will be verified for finalists]
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 21 years of age

Health Insurance
The City offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. The medical plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help cover eligible healthcare expenses. Health insurance coverage begins on your date of hire.
Holidays
For many employee groups, the City provides 17 days (136 hours/year) of paid holiday leave. These include: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Years Eve.
Life Insurance
After six months of employment, employees are eligible for $10,000 coverage under our group life insurance policy. Additional coverage up to the employees annual salary ($40,000 maximum) may be purchased. Upon retirement this coverage will be reduced to $4,000. The premiums will be paid by the City.
Voluntary Supplemental Benefits
Life insurance (term and whole life), critical illness/cancer, accident, short / long term disability insurance
Deferred Compensation Plan
This plan allows employees to build a financial reserve for retirement by using pre-tax, payroll deducted contributions. This money is held and invested by the plans trustees in options selected by the employee. Risk levels vary depending on the options chosen. Participation is voluntary.
Retirement Plans
The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) and the Police and Fire Disability and Pension Fund (PFDPF) are the two plans available to City employees. Both are established by Ohio law and participation is required. Both the employee and the City of Hamilton contribute a percentage (pre-tax) into the system. Members do not pay into the Federal Social Security System. Employees and the City also contribute to Medicare.
