The Collegiate Enrichment Academy is a school sponsored afterschool program the offers non-athletic classes for our Early Childhood through second grad students. The CEA classes follow the WCS calendar and observe the same holiday and conference schedule. Our classes are offered for 13 week sessions in the Fall and the Spring semesters.
Position Description
The Assistant Chess Teacher supports Collegiate Enrichment Academy chess instruction for students in grades 1-5. Working under the direction of the CEA Director, you help students develop critical thinking, strategy, and sportsmanship. This part-time, commissioned role contributes to high-quality after-school enrichment programming on the Wichita Collegiate campus.
The primary responsibilities: - Teach and mentor students of different skill levels.
- Lead engaging chess lessons and activities.
- Create a fun, supportive, and challenging learning environment
- Help manage student behavior and class participation
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Must be available for after-school hours on the WCS campus during scheduled CEA sessions.
Ideal candidates demonstrate the following
knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Passionate about chess
- Patient and enthusiastic when working with children
- Organized and dependable.
- Punctual. Work hours include designated time to escort students to begin lessons on time.
- Comfortable teaching beginners and more advanced players
- Experienced with chess instruction or tournament organization (preferred)
Work Environment: This is a part-time, commissioned, on-campus role. Classes meet after school during the 13-week fall and spring CEA sessions. The primary work location is the Lower School on Wichita Collegiate School campus. Summer sessions may be available depending on program needs. Every one of us is different, together we are Spartans.
