    We are looking for an Animal Breeding Program Coordinator who will work under the supervision of the Animal Breeding Program Supervisor to plan, implement, and monitor the breeding of animals for biomedical research. You will assist the Breeding Supervisor with training, task assignment, and monitoring the performance of technicians assigned to breeding activities. You may also assist with husbandry/breeding and other technical support functions as required.

    As a successful candidate you will:

    • Serve as the primary liaison between Comparative Medicine (CCM) staff and research teams, collaborating with investigators to develop strategic breeding plans and ensure production goals are met through effective colony management.
    • Manage all aspects of breeding colony operations, including mating selection, genotyping, phenotyping, breeding performance, weaning, and colony maintenance, while providing ongoing communication and support to research groups to ensure project success.
    • Interpret and apply NIH guidelines, institutional animal care policies, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations to ensure compliance and uphold the highest standards of animal welfare and research integrity.
    • Train and support breeding, husbandry, and research staff on animal breeding practices, colony management, and troubleshooting breeding challenges, while facilitating the onboarding and development of new breeding projects.
    • Establish, maintain, and oversee breeding databases, record-keeping systems, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring accurate data management, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the animal breeding program.

    Your qualifications should include:

    • Associates degree or extensive course work in animal science, biology, veterinary technology, or a related field. Bachelor's degree is preferred.

    o 2 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.

    • Practical training in breeding colony management practices is required.
    • AALAS Learning Library Transgenic Training Program Courses on Breeding and Colony Management offered by Charles River Laboratory, Jackson Laboratory or any other Educational Training is preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of animal husbandry, handling, restraint, breeding techniques, regulations, and concepts of animal welfare

    Required Certifications/Licensure (Must have one of the qualifications below)

    • AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATg) certification with 4 years of related animal care experience which includes breeding colony management and animal husbandry
    • LAT certification with 5+ years of animal breeding experience
    • ALAT certification with 10+ years of animal breeding experience managing breeding colonies
