INDUS supports the planning, coordination, and installation activities of Combat System and Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Intelligence (C5I) Systems in aircraft carriers, and other strike group or strike force units (including but not limited to LHA, LHD, LPD, and other L-Class units). Our team is directly responsible for supporting the planning, budgeting, and execution of New Construction (SCN) testing and modernization efforts on Amphibious ship Combat Systems for Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD), Ship Defense and Expeditionary Warfare Department, Amphibious Combat Systems.

 

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Combat Systems Project Engineer (CSPE) plans and coordinates engineering, training, and ship qualification tests supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Port Hueneme Division (PHD), Ship Defense and Expeditionary Warfare Department, Combat Systems & Test and Evaluation Division, Amphibious Combat Systems Branch on the CVN/L-Class contract. The ideal candidate has extensive technical knowledge in Aircraft Carrier and/or Amphibious Ship Combat Systems Engineering. We have multiple openings in San Diego,CA.

What You'll Do:
  • Support Combat Systems production, modernization, installation, repair, and testing efforts in a role comparable to production controllers, ship surveyors, shipbuilding specialists, and electronics technicians/engineers.
  • Coordinate with PEO IWS, PMS 525, PMS 321, NSWC PHD, Regional Maintenance Centers, NAVSEA Warfare Centers, Ship’s Force, and industry representatives to support scheduling, installation activities, modernization efforts, and emergent issue resolution.
  • Ensure combat systems installations and upgrades comply with applicable standards, policies, technical drawings, baseline configurations, and installation requirements.
  • Coordinate and advise government and industry technical teams during modernization, integration, maintenance availabilities, and Combat Systems Assessment Team events.
  • Review and interpret ship drawings during planning and execution phases to validate equipment layouts, space requirements, and installation compliance.
  • Assess, track, and report installation, modernization, repair, testing, and completion status for combat systems equipment during vessel availabilities.
  • Review Alteration Installation Team (AIT) C5I and ICS installation/test packages, schedules, and test plans to ensure alignment with availability milestones and objectives.
  • Coordinate with logistics representatives to support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), including equipment sanitization, harvesting, offloading, shipping, material tracking, and delivery of required equipment during availabilities.
  • Document and report material discrepancies, equipment deficiencies, and installation issues identified before or during execution.
  • Coordinate with ISEA and LOGREPS to ensure post-installation ILS delivery, including training, operational documentation, and technical manuals.
  • Provide technical reviews of availability planning documents, execution processes, testing documentation, and associated technical materials, identifying and reporting discrepancies as required.
  • Develop and maintain Test Sequence Networks (TSNs) by reviewing alterations, repairs, technical drawings, certification manuals, and test procedures to identify testing requirements and maintain testing critical paths.
  • Coordinate at-sea testing efforts and advise availability teams of issues that could impact installation schedules, production work, testing objectives, or underway requirements.
  • Identify, track, and resolve Combat Systems certification requirements and related issues.
  • Develop Compartment Release Schedules identifying testing support requirements such as HVAC, chilled water, and power by compartment, and participate in compartment release inspections.
  • Provide comprehensive weekly status reporting covering installation progress, combat systems testing, schedules, risks, issues, and recommended courses of action.
  • Deliver end-of-availability reporting detailing installation and testing status of all modernized or affected combat systems, including deferred work, outstanding alterations, and undelivered ILS items for turnover to Program Management.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related technical field. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • At least seven (7) years systems engineering/combat systems integration experience OR a minimum of 15 years technical experience showing progressive advancement of roles/responsibilities.
  • Must have experience with standard Combat Systems Engineering principles, theories, concepts, techniques, and systems integration aboard U.S. Navy Ships.
  • Knowledge and experience of Aircraft Carrier and Amphibious Ship Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat and Intelligence (C5I) systems, installation process, and associated test procedures.
  • Expert knowledge of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Integrated Combat Systems (ICS) suite.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in engineering or a related technical field. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 10 years systems engineering/combat systems integration experience OR a minimum of 20 years technical experience showing progressive advancement of roles/responsibilities.
  • Prior U.S. Navy experience as a Fire Controlman or Electronics Technician aboard Littoral Combat Ships is highly desired.

Physical Requriements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • The ability to lift items that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
  • Travel Required: ~25% travel required to support test demonstrations (in port and underway).

 

INDUS aims to provide a competitive compensation package, including a strong pay for performance rewards approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $110,000 – $120,000.
