Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Command Specialist to provide technical and customer support for directional drilling and Measuring While Drilling (MWD) equipment operating in the field.

 

Job Description

  • Provide direct technical support to customers and field personnel operating MWD and drilling equipment.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for field operators experiencing technical issues with supported equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and operational issues remotely using available technical information and field data.
  • Communicate directly with customers to understand problems, gather relevant information, and provide appropriate technical guidance.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the appropriate technical, engineering, or operational resources.
  • Monitor ongoing field activity and maintain awareness of equipment performance and operational issues.
  • Document equipment activity, technical issues, troubleshooting efforts, and resolutions in applicable business systems.
  • Accurately catalog and maintain field information so it can be leveraged by technical, sales, rental, and operational teams.
  • Consolidate field information and provide regular updates regarding ongoing equipment activity.
  • Identify recurring issues and communicate trends to appropriate internal teams.
  • Support rental and sales activity by providing timely technical information and customer support.
  • Work collaboratively with Command Team Leads and other technical functions to ensure issues are addressed efficiently.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service during all customer interactions.
  • Participate in training and continuous development related to MWD systems, drilling technologies, and support processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Skills Required

  • 3–5 years of direct field experience in a directional drilling or MWD service business, preferably within North American land operations.
  • Strong understanding of MWD operations and field troubleshooting.
  • Strong computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Ability to analyze and organize technical and operational data.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with customers and field personnel regarding technical problems.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective when troubleshooting time-sensitive field issues.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when and how to escalate technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with XEM, xBolt, or similar electromagnetic MWD systems.
  • Prior experience with the equipment manufacturer's MWD technologies.
  • Previous experience supporting MWD equipment remotely from a command center or technical support environment.
  • Familiarity with rotary steerable systems.
  • Experience with additional MWD or directional drilling technologies.
  • Experience using Power BI or other data visualization and analysis platforms.
  • Previous customer-facing technical support experience.

 

Education

  • Minimum 2-year technical degree or equivalent technical education and experience.

 

Additional requirements

  • Recent MWD experience, specifically with electromagnetic (EM) telemetry, within the last 3–5 years.

 

Pay rate

  • $35 - $45 per hour (Compensation is offered based on experience, skills, and market factors)
